№5. Sagrada Familia

Sagrada Familia is one of those places that is worth visiting even without a checkmark on your list of Barcelona must-sees: the basilica truly impresses with its scale and how its towers can be seen from afar over the city. It’s not just a beautiful building, but one of the most famous landmarks in Barcelona, attracting visitors for both its architecture and the feeling of the place.

What you need to know

The basilica is located at Carrer Mallorca, 401, Barcelona 08013. It is conveniently accessible by metro lines L2 and L5, as well as several bus routes, making it a great fit in your city itinerary. Entrance tickets are sold online only, and it’s usually recommended to allow time for queues and sightseeing, as it is one of the most visited places in the city.

When is the best time to go

Opening hours vary depending on the season: in spring and autumn, the basilica is usually open longer, in summer — the longest, and in winter, the schedule is shorter. On holidays, particularly December 25 and 26 and January 1 and 6, hours are reduced. If you want a quieter visit, it’s better to plan for the morning hours, as there is a quieter hour from 9:00 to 10:00.

Is it worth it for you

Yes, if you love architecture, grand city panoramas, and places that truly leave an impression. Sagrada Familia works well as a short stop for a few hours or as the central event of your day in Barcelona. However, if you don’t like crowds and don’t plan to go inside, it still makes sense to at least see it from the outside: it leaves a strong impression even before entering.
