№7. Twelve Apostles

Twelve Apostles: Is it worth the trip?

Yes, if you love dramatic coastal views: these limestone cliffs rise from the Southern Ocean and have become one of the most famous stops along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. The name is a bit misleading — today, you can see seven rock pillars instead of twelve. The best place for a first impression is the viewing platforms, which offer a panoramic view of the coastline.

When to go and what to expect

At sunset, the cliffs can change shades from yellow to red and orange. But this is a popular location, so it tends to be busier in the middle of the day; for a quieter visit, it's better to consider the morning or late afternoon. Also, keep the weather in mind: the coast can have strong waves and sudden changes in conditions.

How to make your visit comfortable

There are viewing platforms and walking paths on site; some routes and platforms are accessible for wheelchair users. Wear comfortable shoes, and on a sunny day, bring sun protection: there is little shade along the coast. Stick to the designated paths and do not climb over fences — this will help you stay safe and protect the natural environment.

If you love scenic views, sea air, and short walks with a great reward at the end, the Twelve Apostles are definitely worth a stop. Would you go to see them at dawn or wait for the sunset?
