DRUK is not a museum with a quiet queue of halls, but a vibrant cultural and community center in a former Kharkiv printing house. It's worth visiting if you're interested in local art, exhibitions, and events, rather than just viewing exhibits: the program changes, so it's best to choose your visit around a specific event.
About the Place
The building on Hontcharivskyi Boulevard was built in 1898 for the printing house of S. P. Yakovlev. During the Soviet era, railway tickets were printed here, and later, Kharkiv Printing House No. 2 operated until it ceased operations in 2010. The building has been designated as a local architectural monument since 1980.
After years of decline, the space began to be transformed into a cultural center in 2021. Due to the full-scale invasion, work had to be suspended, but it resumed in 2023. Today, DRUK unites Kharkiv cultural initiatives and combines artistic functions with a community platform.
What to See and Do
At DRUK, there is the "Creative Nezhyt" gallery, the "Ocheret" theater, and other cultural initiatives. Exhibitions, lectures, film screenings, theatrical and performative events take place here; the specific program depends on the schedule. So before your visit, check the center's event calendar or choose an exhibition that interests you.
A unique feature of the space is the "Art Shelter": a multifunctional room used for both cultural events and as a shelter. It's not just an additional hall, but part of how the center has adapted to the reality of Kharkiv.
How to Get There
The address of DRUK is Hontcharivskyi Boulevard, 10/2, Kharkiv. The center is located in the Hontcharivka area, in the building of the former printing house. The most convenient public transport route will depend on your starting point; check the current traffic and route availability before your trip.
Hours and Prices
The official website lists the hours of operation: Monday to Friday — 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday — 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM. This is the general schedule of the center, and the timing of specific events may vary. There is no single entry price listed on the website, so it's worth checking the conditions for visiting in the description of a specific event.
Who It's For
DRUK is suitable for those who want to see contemporary Kharkiv art and feel how the cultural life of the city persists even in difficult circumstances. For a date or a meeting with friends, it's good to choose an exhibition, performance, or lecture — this way, it will be clear what exactly you came for. Allow about an hour for viewing the exhibition, and if you plan to attend an event, orient yourself to its duration.
Visitor Tips
It's best to plan your visit around a specific event: this way, you'll see DRUK in its natural rhythm, rather than just peeking into the space between events. Check the current program and start time before heading out, as the event schedule may not coincide with the general hours of operation. If you're interested in the history of the building, pay attention to its former purpose: it was the printing past that gave the center its name, DRUK.
