Eiffel Tower 2nd Floor: Is it worth going up to the second floor of the Eiffel Tower?
If you want to see Paris from a height but don’t necessarily want to go to the very top, the second floor of the Eiffel Tower is a great option. Here, the city is still well visible in detail: you can see the bends of the Seine, rooftops, iconic landmarks, and the scale of Paris itself.
What to expect
The second floor is located about 115 meters above the ground. From here, you get a panoramic view of the Louvre, Montmartre, Notre-Dame, Les Invalides, Grand Palais, and other famous places in Paris. The observation area allows you to see the city from different angles, while the metal structures of the tower itself remain clearly visible above you.
On this level, there are two viewing platforms, shops, a buffet, and places where you can grab a drink or a snack. There is also the restaurant Le Jules Verne — a separate story for those who want to combine the panorama with a gastronomic experience.
Why the second floor
The second floor often seems to be the most convenient compromise: you are high enough to see Paris in a wide panorama, but many city details are still not lost in the distance. Unlike the top, the view here is more "about the city" rather than just about height.
In the evening, this place is particularly atmospheric: from the second floor, you can see the lights of Paris well, and the tower itself shines and sparkles after dark. At the same time, for a first acquaintance with Paris, a daytime visit may be more practical — it’s easier to see Sacré-Cœur, the Seine, the Louvre, and other landmarks.
A few facts about the tower
The Eiffel Tower was built on the Champ de Mars for the 1889 World's Fair, dedicated to the centenary of the French Revolution. Construction began on January 26, 1887, and was completed on March 31, 1889 — in less than two and a half years.
The tower became a large-scale engineering experiment and later transformed into one of the main symbols of Paris. Its address is Tour Eiffel, Paris, France; the coordinates are 48.8584, 2.2945.
If you are in Paris for the first time, love city panoramas, and want to have a strong impression without necessarily climbing to the very top, the second floor is definitely worth considering. Would you choose the daytime view or the evening lights of Paris?
