Explora in Rome: a place where children don’t just watch, but try
If after a few museums and squares in Rome your child wants not another tour, but movement and play, Explora can be a very good option. It’s a children’s museum in the city center designed for kids aged 0 to 11, where learning about everyday life and science happens through interactive exhibits.
What to expect from your visit
Explora operates as a space for children and families: here you can interact with exhibits, explore various phenomena, and learn through your own experience. So it’s not a museum where you need to walk quietly behind adults and read long captions. It can be the best place in your itinerary if your child needs an active break between walks in Rome.
The museum is located in an area that is convenient to reach Piazza del Popolo and Piazzale Flaminio. The official address is Via Flaminia, 82; in some tourist guides, you might also find the number 80, so it’s best to orient yourself towards the Explora museum at Via Flaminia.
How time is organized
Visits occur in sessions lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes. From Tuesday to Sunday, there are four time slots available: 10:00–11:45, 12:00–13:45, 15:00–16:45, and 17:00–18:45. The museum is closed on Mondays.
This format is convenient if you plan your day by the hour: you can combine Explora with a walk around the center, lunch, or a rest at the hotel. At the same time, it’s not a place for a spontaneous "let’s drop in for half an hour," as the session has a clear start and end.
Is it worth going
Yes — especially if you are traveling with a child under 11 and want to add something not only beautiful but also truly engaging to your Roman itinerary. Explora is well-suited for a day when the heat, fatigue, or an excess of adult attractions are already taking their toll.
However, if your child does not like organized activities at all or you are looking for a classic museum with paintings and historical items, the experience may be weaker. But for a family trip, it’s one of those formats that help make Rome more comfortable not only for parents but also for little travelers.
