How We Pulled It Off: A Tuscany Wedding Amid Cypress Trees and Bas Reliefs

A Wedding in Tuscany: Is It Worth Traveling for One Special Day?

If you want not just a banquet, but a wedding story with character, Tuscany can be a very fitting choice. Here, celebrations take place among ancient villas, cypress trees, hills, and stone bas-reliefs — as if you’ve stepped into an Italian movie, but with the chance to live out this plot yourself.

A Location with History

The couple Tina Bai and Joe Rodonis were looking for a place that had its own history, not just a pretty facade. They settled on Villa Cetinale — a historic villa near Siena, in Sovicille. The wedding events took place right on the estate grounds, so guests didn’t have to constantly move between different locations.

The ceremony area looked particularly stunning on the back lawn. It was framed by stone walls with statues representing the change of seasons, and beyond stretched two parallel lines of slender cypress trees. Add the views of the Tuscan hills — and you have a backdrop that hardly needs any additional decoration.

Not Just a Ceremony, But a Whole Weekend

The celebration lasted from Sunday to Tuesday during Labor Day weekend. Each day had the color of the Italian flag, so the events differed in mood and didn’t turn into one long repetitive party.

The guest welcome was organized in the format of a pizza patio on the villa's back patio. Pizzaiolos prepared pizza outdoors in an oven, and the casual format helped guests get to know each other even before the main ceremony.

After the ceremony, guests returned to the villa for a cocktail hour with food stations by the atmospheric facade. One of the most striking details was a fountain serving limoncello spritz — a small but very "Tuscan" highlight of the evening.

Who This Format Is Really Suitable For

It’s worth going if you appreciate historical places, intimate events, and celebrations that unfold over several days. In Tuscany, you can create not just a ceremonial event, but a whole journey for your closest ones: with beautiful gardens, Italian cuisine, and time to be together without haste.

At the same time, this format is for those who are ready to plan details in advance and trust local professionals with the organization. In this story, a key role was played by Florentine planner Silvia Bargagni from Magnolia Wedding Planner, who helped find the right suppliers and bring the event together as a whole.

So if you dream of a wedding among cypress trees, ancient stone, and hills, Tuscany looks not just beautiful, but a very convincing option. Would you choose such a multi-day Italian celebration or would you still prefer an intimate ceremony closer to home?
