Chronicle of Dnipro · Episode 2 · Character of the City
January 1918 — District that Started with Workers' Self-Governance
On January 25, 1918, the first meeting of the Presidium of the Amur-Dniprovskiy Council took place; this date is considered the founding day of the district that grew from the workers' settlements of Amur and Dniprovskiy.
This became an urban feature, as the district was formed from the very beginning as an industrial and working-class outskirts: not a "parade" center, but a space of factories, railways, and self-governance, which was perceived in the city as a separate, recognizable "AND".
👤 Workers and residents of the Amur and Dniprovskiy settlements; the first head of the district council is said to be the worker of the "Shoduar" factory A. Saveliev.
🏳 At that time, Dnipro was in the political situation of the Ukrainian People's Republic: on January 22, 1918, the Central Council proclaimed the independence of the Ukrainian People's Republic, and the Ukrainian Central Council acted as the highest authority until April 29, 1918. The city's residents were Ukrainians, and the local authority in Amur and Dniprovskiy was formed from workers and soldiers, that is, from the urban population, not from foreign administration.
👀 Today: Currently, the administration of the Amur-Dniprovskiy district of the Dnipro City Council operates at 31 Manuylivskyi Avenue in Dnipro. In the open sources cited here, there is no confirmation of a separate preserved monument, museum, or document specifically related to the meeting on January 25, 1918, so I cannot reliably indicate another object.
