Chronicle of Kharkiv · Episode 3 · Mysticism
1910 — Butusov House
It was said that anyone who undertook its reconstruction would go mad, fall ill, or even die; there were also legends about "secret gatherings" of Freemasons in this building.
🔎 What really happened: Documented evidence shows that this is a historical building in the center of Kharkiv, built in 1910 according to the design of architect L. K. Terven; it was initially an elite hotel building, and later served other urban functions, after which the building declined and remained in a state of disrepair.
👤 Journalists and local lore reviewers of urban legends
🏳 In 1910, Kharkiv was part of the Russian Empire; the city's population, like that of most Ukrainian cities of the imperial era, remained Ukrainian in origin, despite foreign state authority.
